    APN General Meeting

This is our Annual Membership Meeting where will will vote on 4 new candidates for the APN Board of Trustees. Read about these incredible individuals below. We will also hold a vote on changes to the APN bylaws to more appropriately reflect our 4th priority area of structural racism.

    Quincy Bloxom

Quincy is currently the Director of Operations and Development of Solstice Counseling and Wellness; a holistic wellness substance abuse and mental health outpatient treatment facility. As a graduate level social worker, Quincy’s professional role involves direct service delivery via mental health and substance abuse counseling. In addition to providing direct services to some of the most vulnerable in our society, Quincy also creates policies to implement best practices to serve individuals navigating through addiction to substances and mental health disorders.

Prior to becoming a social worker Quincy served in the US Army. During his enlistment he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and received multiple awards and decorations associated with his service and deployment under Operation Iraqi Freedom.  After separating from the military Quincy was noticed by Rutgers for his independent research on the correlations between urban education and addiction and eventually went on to serve as principle investigator at In-class Solutions; a D.C. based supplemental education platform. He incorporates his experience into various advocacy activities offering support whenever needed to the Anti-Poverty Network and is also a graduate of the Coalition to End Homelessness’ Garden State Leaders program.

    Johanna Calle

Ms. Calle is the Program Coordinator at the NJ Alliance for Immigrant Justice. The organization focuses on bringing stakeholders into the policy making process in order to best represent and benefit community members. She is also currently a Board of Education member in Hackensack. Previously she was a Bilingual Education teacher in Newark, working with low-income students and their families, addressing their social and academic needs. Ms. Calle has lived the immigrant experience and was a bilingual student in elementary school, learning English in 9 months and excelling academically. Ms. Calle earned her Bachelor of Sociology and Political Science at The College of New Jersey where she first became involved in politics during the 2007 primary election as an undocumented student. She obtained her Master's in Criminal Justice at Rutgers University. Ms. Calle has been politically active since 2007, giving back to her community as a mentor to students and volunteering with the Parent Outreach Office at Hackensack High School

    Rev. Eric Dobson

Rev. Eric Dobson joined Fair Share Housing Center as Staff Outreach Coordinator in 2012. Eric is an ordained minister, a community organizer, outreach specialist and social entrepreneur. He holds a B.A. in Theology from the North Carolina School of Theology and studies community psychology at Rutgers University. He has extensive experience working with diverse audiences and communities and specializes in interfaith outreach. Eric is the Co-Founder of Open Communities LLC, a racial integration consultant firm that works to resolve simple and complex conflicts of race, ethnicity and socio- economics. He also founded a non-profit focused on youth development and education, Planting Seeds of Hope, and in 2008 served as the PA Clergy Outreach Director for the Obama Campaign.

    Anna "Cuqui" Rivera

Ms. Rivera works as a community activist. Her activism began in the late 1980s when she started volunteering for a youth program organized at the Puerto Rican Action Board [PRAB]. After spending two years as a full–time unpaid volunteer, Ms. Rivera was hired by the Puerto Rican Action Board to help run the newly formed Hispanic Youth in Progress program. She also worked in other capacities for PRAB, notably with their HIV/AIDS prevention groups, for fifteen years. In 1999, Ms. Rivera started working for the newly formed Hispanic Directors' Association of New Jersey, Inc.[HDANJ] as the Outreach Assistant for the Pro–Kids Campaign. The campaign was a strategic project to enroll 10,000 three and four year old children into preschools, which was successful in reaching their goal. Through her work with HDANJ, Ms. Rivera also got deeply involved in prisoners' rights and as a result helped organize statewide round–tables to identify and address issues impacting the Latino community. Her community and civil rights activism has focused on improving the lives of children and addressing discrimination within her community. Ms. Rivera currently serves as the Secretary to the Latino Action Network Steering Committee.

After the votes, APN will provide an overview of the new report, The Uncomfortable Truth: Racism, Injustice, and Poverty in New Jersey. Copies of the report and the summary of policy recommendations will be provided to attendees.

We will also be joined by the League of Women Voters of New Jersey to talk about the upcoming election and how you can encourage low-income voters to participate.

Join us for important information, networking, and sharing.
