Topic: How to Make NJ Count in the Census 2020
The 2020 Census poses serious challenges for New Jersey's low-income families. The decennial Census determines funding levels for $22B of federal spending in New Jersey including most programs for low-income residents, including Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, school meals, Title I schools, Section 8 housing, and Pell Grants. But New Jersey's low-income residents are also least likely to be counted. With extra obstacles in 2020 such as an online questionnaire and uncertainty around the citizenship question, NJ must gear up to guarantee a fair and accurate count.
